How Early Should You Book Wedding Catering?
A practical booking timeline for wedding catering, including peak-season advice and what to do if your date is close.

The honest answer is: as soon as you have a date and venue. Popular caterers fill up, particularly for summer Saturdays.
A sensible timeline
- 9 to 12 months before: shortlist caterers and request quotes, especially for May to September weddings.
- 6 to 9 months before: confirm your choice, sign the contract and pay the deposit.
- 3 to 4 months before: finalise the menu and any dietary needs.
- 12 weeks before: balance payment is due with many caterers, including us.
- 2 to 4 weeks before: confirm final numbers, timings and venue access.
Peak and off-peak
May to September is the busiest period. October to April is quieter, which gives you more choice and, with some caterers, lower prices. We offer a reduction in our slower months.
If your wedding is close
Don't panic. Many couples find themselves short of time after a cancellation or change of plan. We accept bookings with as little as 24 hours' notice where we have the date free, because we own all our equipment and do not rely on hiring it in.
Whatever your timescale, send us your date and numbers and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.
Frequently asked questions
Can I book wedding catering at the last minute?
Often, yes. We can accept bookings with 24 hours' notice where the date is free, though earlier is always better for peak dates.
When is the balance due?
With us, the £200 deposit secures your date and the balance is due 12 weeks before the event.
Is it cheaper to book out of season?
Often. We reduce prices in our slower months, October to April.
